Small Contemporary U-Shaped Kitchen | Leeds | More Kitchens

Background
After visiting our Leeds showroom and taking the time to explore our kitchen displays, our clients booked a free design appointment with our Senior Designer, Julie to talk through their ideas for updating their kitchen in Leeds. Having previously completed a bathroom renovation with our sister company, More Bathrooms, they returned to us with confidence, knowing the level of quality and service they could expect.
Their existing kitchen design felt tight, cluttered and difficult to use day-to-day. Storage was limited, appliances weren’t in the right places, and the layout simply wasn’t making the most of the space available.
The existing kitchen layout presented several challenges that affected both functionality and flow. The original pantry felt disconnected from the overall design, while a large exposed bulkhead beneath the oven area limited how the space could be used.
Additionally, the position of the internal door reduced available worktop space and disrupted the natural movement through the room, leaving the kitchen feeling less cohesive and efficient than it could be.

Design & Layout
Working with the space, Senior Designer Julie carefully rethought how the kitchen could function better. By repositioning appliances and refining the layout, turning it into a U-shaped kitchen, the room instantly began to feel more intuitive, with a natural flow that supports everyday use.
One of the standout changes was making the most of the alcove and under-stairs space, transforming it into a practical pantry-style area. What was once underused is now a valuable part of the kitchen, helping to free up the main space and reduce visual clutter.
Consideration was also given to the door positioning and how the room connected, creating a more open feel. Additional radiators and new internal doors have further improved the overall experience of the space.
The cabinetry was kept light and understated, helping to bounce natural light around the room and create that all important sense of space. Finished in soft grey mist, it provides a clean, contemporary foundation, implemented by polished worktops and sleek handles that add subtle contrast. Under-cabinet lighting introduces warmth and enhances the overall atmosphere, while integratedappliances maintain a seamless, uncluttered look resulting in a kitchen that feels light, calm and easy to live with.

Storage was a key driver for this project, shaping a design that feels both calm and highly functional. A considered mix of tall units, deep drawers and clever internal solutions ensures everything has its place. Rather than simply adding more, the focus was on making storage work harder.
Finishing touches such as clever corner storage and wood-effect LVTflooring bring texture and practicality, resulting in a space that feels cohesive, considered and effortless to use.

The Result

By rethinking the layout, unlocking hidden storage and keeping the design simple and considered, the room now feels bigger, calmer and far more usable.
It’s a great example of how even a small kitchen, when designed properly, can completely change how a space feels and functions.
