Small L-Shaped Kitchen Renovation | Ilkley | More Kitchens

Published: 19 December 2025

Background

This kitchen renovation in Ilkley began when our client discovered More Kitchens online and contacted us via telephone. The property is around 50 years old, and the kitchen was original to the house. Although the room itself was a good size, the existing layout and fittings were tired, outdated, and no longer suited modern living.

The original kitchen featured limited storage, an unused end wall beneath the window, and an old decommissioned boiler positioned in the opposite corner to a built-in cupboard. The fridge-freezer stood freestanding to one side, disrupting the flow of the room and contributing to a cluttered, inefficient layout.

The project was fully managed by Project Manager Rob, with Andy acting as lead fitter, ensuring the installation progressed smoothly and efficiently from start to finish.

Objective

The client’s main reason for renovating was to modernise a kitchen that had become dated and impractical. They wanted to remove redundant elements, improve the layout, and create a clean, streamlined space with additional storage.

Key objectives included removing the old boiler, upgrading appliances, improving the overall flow of the room, and achieving a fresh, contemporary look while retaining space for dining.

Kitchen Design

Our design approach focused on maximising the existing footprint with minimal disruption. The most impactful change was making use of the previously unused end wall beneath the window. By introducing additional units and worktop space along this elevation, we significantly increased storage while also creating a dedicated, built-in position for the fridge-freezer.

The rest of the layout was intentionally kept open to preserve a comfortable dining area. The decommissioned boiler was fully removed, a door was added to the built-in cupboard for a neater finish, and a radiator was repositioned to suit the new layout.

The client selected Grey Mist Metro plain doors paired with nickel handles, creating a soft, contemporary aesthetic. These were complemented by anthracite steel grey laminate worktops with matching upstands for durability and contrast. A steel sink completed the modern look.

Appliances included the client’s own fridge-freezer and washing machine, alongside a new oven, induction hob, and extractor hood. As part of the upgrade, the existing gas hob was replaced with a modern electric induction hob.

To finish the space, oak-effect herringbone vinyl flooring was installed, adding warmth, texture, and practicality to the overall scheme.

Additional Works

In addition to the kitchen installation, our in-house team completed a full re-plaster of all walls and ceilings, along with new electrics and plumbing throughout. A central track ceiling light was installed to provide flexible, well-distributed lighting across the room.

By managing all trades internally, the entire project was completed efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

Project Outcome

The finished L-Shaped kitchen is a fresh, modern space that feels lighter, more organised, and far more functional than before. By making better use of the end wall and simplifying the layout, the kitchen now benefits from improved storage, cleaner lines, and a practical flow that suits everyday living.

Customer Review

Following completion, the client shared the 5* feedback on Trust Pilot.

“The work was all done by the company I didn’t have to employ any other trades people and the whole project was overseen by a project manager. This made the process much easier and quicker, with the complete installation of the new kitchen finished in just 13 working days.

All of the work, including the fitting, plastering, electrics, and flooring, was completed to a very good standard. From the initial design discussions through to completion, everything was handled in a professional manner. I would certainly recommend this company.
