Modern Contemporary U Shaped Kitchen Case Study | Cleckheaton

Published: 20 July 2020

A small and awkwardly laid out classic kitchen design that featured arch top door detailing required a contemporary kitchen update to make practical use of the available space while offering an easy to clean, maintenance free finish.

Having visited our Mirfield Kitchen Showroom in the first instance, both Mr and Mrs Hanson were impressed by our concept displays and full service design and fit offering that they invited Senior Designer, Julie, out to measure the existing space and discuss their requirements in more detail in the form of a free design appointment.

Working to a brief whereby practicality was key Julie was immediately drawn to the existing corner pantry, which due to accessibility, had always been a nuisance area. Instantly Julie saw functional potential and proposed removing the pantry and building this area into the kitchen design in the form an L-Shaped corner unit, which would increase access and storage potential, which offering a clean line contemporary concept.

Continuing to augment the workable space, Julie recommended moving the door into the kitchen which in turn would allow her to functionally accommodate an upright fridge freezer and an integrated eye level oven into the overall design.

Incorporating increased levels of kitchen storage through the utilisation of deep pan draws to wide cupboard concepts, meant everything had a place and could be put away. Carefully considering the impact this would have on the existing kitchen lighting arrangements, and not wanting to create a dark look and feel, Julie suggested updating the main downlights while also incorporating a feature light and under counter task lighting.

Adding to the desire of a maintenance free finish, Julie finished the contemporary design concept with easy to clean sleek grey doors, complimented by an inline contemporary kitchen handles and matching upstands, which were preferred over tiles as a result of the no grout requirement. Continuing the grey trend, the kitchen flooring was laid in a slate effect laminate which echoed the finish of the kitchen worktops.

We recently had our kitchen fitted with yourselves and are delighted with the results!

My kitchen is quite small but that didn’t deter Julie’s design capabilities. As soon as she walked in her ideas pinned off straight away - cupboards in places I wouldn’t have thought of. I was impressed with her ideas and how she planned it.

Once we gave the go ahead, Rob, the project manager, visited to chat and confirm when the work would take place. True to his word, the work commenced and finished when he said it would.

John and the other workmen did a fantastic job. John, who was here the most, was helpful with any queries and continued to check we were happy with the work throughout. I’m really happy with the result and would recommend you to anyone interested in a new kitchen!
