Classic U Shaped Kitchen Case Study | Meanwood | West Yorkshire

Published: 23 July 2021

An aging and narrow existing U-shaped kitchen concept was transformed into a simple classic kitchen design with subtle modern undertones.

With an initial design appointment arranged with Senior Designer, Julie, it soon became clear that the project required was a straight, out with the old and in with the new approach.

Retaining the existing fridge-freezer and washing machine, while working to a brief that was to achieve ‘a classic style with no unused or awkward spaces’, the client, who had also had their bathroom done four years previous, was also fixed on the incorporation of a soft, pastel, blue green colour scheme.

Wanting to deliver on all aspects, Julie began by trying to ‘open up’ the available space by clever integration of kitchen storage.

With wall units only occupying one wall, but base units running in a U-shaped design around the room, this provided enough storage to house all appliances, crockery, utensils, food, and glassware, achieving a streamlined look with no awkward spaces, but also gain the illusion of space with a sufficient prep zone thanks to the clever utilisation of the golden triangle of kitchen design.

Adhering to the favoured colour scheme, Julie sourced a sample of the FJORD door which fitted the brief perfectly. Complimented by a pale oak effect kitchen worktop with equalling upstands, this not only matched the clients’ exact requirements but also helped to achieve the classic design with modern undertones.

New cooking appliances in the form of an integrated oven, hob and extractor were added with the kitchen refresh brought to a close with the installation of light, tiled effect vinyl kitchen flooring.
