Classic Kitchen and Utility Transformation | Leeds | More Kitchens
Published: 27 October 2025
Background
Having been recommended to More Kitchens by a friend who had recently completed a similar project with us, our Leeds-based clients visited our Leeds Kitchen Showroom to explore options for transforming their home.
They were greeted by showroom consultant Tom, who took time to understand their requirements and discuss the scope of works in detail. The couple were looking for a full kitchen refurbishment and refit, with a particular interest in removing the dividing wall between their existing kitchen and dining room to create a single, open-plan space. They were also considering changes to their windows and doors to enhance light and access to the garden.
Impressed by the welcoming and professional showroom experience, the clients booked a free home design appointment to explore the possibilities further with senior designer Julie.
Objective
The existing layout of the property comprised a separate kitchen, dining room, and utility room, all relatively compact and disconnected. The main challenge was a lack of usable space and a dining room that felt underutilised, while the kitchen itself was too small for the couple’s love of cooking and entertaining.
The brief was to open up the ground floor, creating a sociable, practical, and elegant space that could serve as the heart of the home. The clients were open to layout and design ideas that would maximise both space and functionality, while maintaining a timeless aesthetic.
Kitchen Design
Working closely with the clients, Julie reimagined the layout to deliver on every aspect of their wish list. Rather than opting for the conventional L-shape, she proposed a long linear arrangement along one wall for the sink and main cooking zone, paired with a large, central island to encourage social interaction and provide generous storage.

The new layout allowed for eye-level cooking and cooling appliances, featuring two Neff slide-and-hide ovens, a Neff venting induction hob, a CDA full-height fridge and freezer, and a wine cooler—perfect for entertaining. The island incorporated deep drawer storage and ample preparation space, while maintaining clear sightlines throughout the room.
To bring the outdoors in, the original kitchen window was replaced with large French doors, flooding the space with natural light and offering direct garden access.

With this new opening in place, the external utility door was no longer required and was therefore bricked up to window height, allowing the installation of a new window. This adjustment dramatically improved the utility’s potential, enabling stacked washer and dryer appliances at a more ergonomic height.

The wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed to achieve a bright, open-plan layout. The original kitchen-to-hallway door was blocked up to create a more streamlined flow from the dining area. This reconfiguration not only optimised space but also improved day-to-day functionality.

Finishes were carefully selected to achieve a classic and cohesive aesthetic. The kitchen featured Pendle Bleached Stone cabinetry in a paint-to-order timber shaker style, paired with Irini Quartz work surfaces for a refined, neutral palette. The design was completed with an under-mount sink in the kitchen, an inset steel sink in the utility, and Freshfield Oak LVT flooring flowing seamlessly through the kitchen, utility, hallway, and cloakroom.
Additional Works
During the refurbishment, the clients chose to extend the project to include a complete refurbishment of the downstairs cloakroom. This involved a full strip-out and the installation of new sanitaryware, including a built-in cistern for easier cleaning and a sleek, flush appearance. The lounge and dining room windows were also replaced as part of the wider transformation, ensuring consistency across the home.
Kitchen Installation
The project was expertly managed by project manager Rob, who coordinated the schedule, trades, and building works from start to finish. His clear communication and problem-solving approach kept the project running smoothly and the clients fully informed throughout.
Multi-skilled fitter Stuart brought the design to life with outstanding craftsmanship. His meticulous attention to detail, calm professionalism, and collaborative approach ensured every finish—from cabinetry alignment to quartz installation—was completed to the highest standard. Specialist stonework was carried out by Marshall, whose precision contributed to the flawless final finish.

Project Outcome
The finished result is a light, spacious, and sociable open-plan kitchen that combines elegance with practicality. The once-segmented layout has been transformed into a flowing, multifunctional space perfect for both everyday use and entertaining guests. The seamless design between the kitchen, utility, and cloakroom delivers a cohesive, timeless look that reflects the clients’ taste and lifestyle.
