Classic Kitchen Refurbishment | Leeds | More Kitchens

Published: 27 August 2025

Background

Longstanding clients of More Bathrooms, Chris and his mother Dorothy had already entrusted us with two previous projects—a bathroom renovation for Chris in early 2024, followed by further bathroom works for Dorothy later that year. Delighted with their experiences and particularly impressed by Designer Nigel’s thoughtful approach, Chris once again returned to us in 2025, this time on behalf of Dorothy, who was ready to refurbish her kitchen and subsequently booked a design appointment to kick things off.

Objective

Dorothy’s existing kitchen was proving to be restrictive. With little storage and a layout that made everyday use difficult, it lacked the practicality she needed for cooking and food preparation. The priority for this project was to create a more functional and efficient space that offered better storage solutions, improved layout, and overall ease of use.

While Dorothy wasn’t certain what design or layout changes, she wanted, she knew she needed her kitchen to be practical, organised, and easy to work in. By carefully listening to her needs, Nigel set out to design a scheme that would:

> Improve the overall kitchen layout.

> Maximise available storage space.

> Enhance practicality and everyday functionality.

> Incorporate essential appliances within the kitchen rather than keeping them separate.

> Improve lighting and accessibility.

Classic Kitchen Design

Nigel’s design began by addressing Dorothy’s biggest frustrations. The freestanding fridge-freezer, which had previously been positioned in the hallway, was integrated into the new kitchen, instantly improving convenience.

A heating appliance was also incorporated into the design, with a tall radiator fitted neatly alongside a run of tall units. To maintain a sleek and cohesive look, one of the corner wall units was carefully brought forward so the tall units remained perfectly in line.

Lighting was another key focus. Previously, a single switch meant Dorothy often had to walk across a dark kitchen to reach the light. To resolve this, additional switches were fitted at each entrance, making the space far safer and more accessible.

A compact small-bowl sink was selected to work around the back door position and existing pipework, while deeper worktops were introduced to provide Dorothy with more usable preparation space. Every design detail—from flooring and wall finishes to storage choices—was considered to create a kitchen that was both practical and welcoming.

Classic Kitchen Installation

As with all More Kitchens projects, the entire refurbishment was fully project-managed for a smooth, stress-free experience. Designer Nigel provided the vision, while Project Manager Rob oversaw the works on-site, ensuring progress was seamless and every detail aligned with Dorothy’s needs.

The installation was expertly carried out by Multi-Skilled Kitchen Fitter Stuart, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail helped transform the design into reality. Together, the team delivered a high-quality finish with minimal disruption, maintaining professionalism, cleanliness, and efficiency throughout – just a handful of the many reasons our clients choose us.

Project Outcome

The end result is a beautifully refurbished classic kitchen that perfectly balances storage, layout, and practicality. With appliances brought into the space, improved lighting, and thoughtful design solutions throughout, Dorothy now has a kitchen that is both functional and enjoyable to use.

Customer Review

Dorothy kindly left us a glowing 5* review on Trustpilot:

“Hassle free kitchen replacement from initial design visit to completion. All reps/fitters turned up when expected and worked efficiently to get the job done to the highest standards. All trades coordinated to avoid delays and tidied away at the end of each day. Everyone was polite, friendly and professional. Top marks to all involved but special mentions for Nigel, Rob and Stuart. Nice touch with gift of chocolates delivered after completion to thank me for using Passmore. I couldn't be happier with the job and would recommend to anyone.”
