Problem

Mrs. and Mrs. Hedges had been thinking about renovating their family kitchen for a while. Their existing kitchen concept wasn’t meeting all their needs mainly due to its limiting size and they wanted to find a company that could deliver them their dream kitchen.

Solution

They began to look on the internet in the hope of finding a trustworthy company within West Yorkshire that could provide them with their desired full service and deliver a new quality kitchen design. Coming across More Kitchens, they were impressed to learn of our full design and fit offering inclusive of building works, which was exactly what they were looking for, and consequently booked a free design appointment.

Our experienced Senior Designer Andy visited the couple to discuss in detail, their reasons for wanting a change, any potential design ideas they may have and offer his expertise for the new concept.

Understanding the fundamental reasons for change, Mr. and Mrs. Hedges explained to Andy that the current design was too small for their family, given that it is the hub of their home and as a result, the whole kitchen experience had become less enjoyable.

Listening to their ideas Mr. and Mrs. Hedges said that they would like to remove an internal wall that was separating the kitchen and living area , in order to open up the available space. New appliances, flooring, and lighting were mentioned in the discussion, along with colours, and design styles that they were keen for Andy to offer his opinions and guidance on, given his vast experience within the kitchen industry.

Considering the couple’s ideas, Andy proposed a multi-functional, free-flowing classic kitchen concept in an open-plan layout. The design reflected the removal of an internal wall, resulting in conjoining the kitchen, and living area with a balance of traditional and modern-contemporary features showcased throughout.

Integrated kitchen appliances were displayed throughout the design, along with a large kitchen island, providing Mr. and Mrs. Hedges with extra kitchen worktop space and storage. Andy also redesigned their utility room congruent with the kitchen design.

Andy said behind the design concept ideas –

“After finding out that Mr. Hedges is a keen cook it felt ideal for the design to include an island as it would provide the space to host family gatherings and entertain guests as the layout sectioned off each area creating a better flow and overall provide a seamless experience for all.”

*The above principle is known as the golden triangle of kitchen design and we have an article detailing how you can implement this within your own kitchen.

Thrilled with the initial design proposal, Mr. and Mrs. Hedges were invited by Andy to our Harrogate Kitchen showroom to go through the final stages of designing their kitchen. He also provided them with a provisional quote for the works.

At the second appointment, Andy presented the couple with CAD visuals helping them envision how their new kitchen design would look. Amazed by the visuals, Andy then guided them around the showroom to pick the kitchen finishing touches. Excited by how their upcoming kitchen was coming together, they were more than happy to place an order.

Open Plan Classic Kitchen Refurbishment

Prior to the kitchen being fit, the couple were introduced to Kitchen Project Manager Rob who would work alongside the fitter Andy and visit over the course of the project making sure it runs smoothly.

With the internal wall removed thanks to More Build, the kitchen and living area were integrated into one room achieving Mr. and Mrs. Hedges desires and really reflecting an open-plan concept.

In the middle of the design, a large dominant kitchen island was fit, creating a perfect sociable area to host and entertain guests. With its size the island also provides the family kitchen with extra worktop space and storage. The worktop area was fit with both white quartz and oak wood material, with pendant lighting was installed separating the areas on the kitchen island and offering focus.

Eye-catching cream shaker-style units were fit all around the new kitchen, particularly one side consisting of tall ladder units giving the couple extra storage space and part of the ladder units integrated eye level oven and microwave were also fit.

To match the kitchen island worktop polished white quartz was installed as part of the kitchen renovation and to reflect the traditional features, a large Belfast sink was fit as well as and an induction hob.

Keeping in line with the kitchen design, the utility room was fit with tall ladder shaker-style units and quartz worktop, creating design synergy between both rooms.

Outcome

Mr. and Mrs. Hedges existing kitchen design was taken out and transformed into an exquisite open-plan classic kitchen design. The impressive kitchen design entailed a mixture but a fine balance of traditional and modern-contemporary features, completely designed by More Kitchens and fit by our multi-skilled fitter Andy.
