Small Contemporary Kitchen Renovation | Harrogate | More Kitchens
Published: 15 January 2026
This small contemporary kitchen renovation in Harrogate shows how thoughtful design can completely change the way a space feels and functions. By carefully considering light, layout, and material choice, this once dark apartment kitchen has been transformed into a calm, welcoming space that feels effortless to use and a pleasure to live with.
Background
Mr Clark contacted our Leeds showroom after discovering More Kitchens in Your Doorstep magazine. Having recently moved into his apartment, he was keen to make the space feel more like home, starting with a kitchen that no longer reflected his style or supported everyday living.
Although partially open to the lounge, the existing kitchen felt visually heavy and disconnected. Dark oak cabinetry and wall tiles absorbed what little light there was, and with no natural daylight entering the room, the space felt enclosed and uninspiring. Mr Clark wanted to start again, creating a small contemporary kitchen that felt lighter, more open, and naturally connected to the living area beyond.
Objective
For this small kitchen renovation in Harrogate, the focus was on creating a contemporary space that felt light, calm, and easy to live in. Mr Clark was keen for a clean, uncluttered look, with integrated appliances and practical storage that kept everything streamlined and intuitive for everyday cooking.
As the kitchen has no windows, lighting and material choices played a key role. The final design balances warmth and simplicity, ensuring the space feels welcoming throughout the day while flowing seamlessly into the adjoining lounge.
Kitchen Design
The heart of the design was a desire to maximise light and create a calm, uncluttered feel. The Integra Grey Mist cabinetry, with its subtle gloss finish, reflects light around the room and immediately lifts the space, making it feel more open. A simple door style was key to keeping the kitchen looking clean and effortless, allowing the design to breathe even within a compact layout.

To make the most of every inch, units were taken up to ceiling height, creating a tailored, considered finish while increasing storage. Tall cabinetry was grouped together to house the integrated fridge freezer, eye-level oven, and built-in microwave, giving the kitchen a strong sense of structure and ensuring everything is comfortably within reach.
White Lake quartz worktops were selected to complement the pale grey cabinetry and further enhance the feeling of brightness. Matching up stands and a rear hob splash back create a seamless flow across the design, while the under mount grey sink keeps the worktops uninterrupted, reinforcing the kitchen’s clean lines and contemporary feel.
Appliances from Bosch, Neff, and AEG were chosen by Mr Clark after careful research, blending reliable performance with a sleek, integrated appearance. The induction hob supports modern, efficient cooking while maintaining the kitchen’s refined aesthetic.
Lighting played a key role in bringing the space to life. Inset ceiling lights provide even, practical illumination, while under wall-unit lighting adds warmth and depth, transforming the kitchen into a space that feels inviting at any time of day.
To finish the space, Naked Blond Oak luxury vinyl tile flooring was chosen for its warmth and natural character. It adds a softness underfoot and grounds the overall scheme, while subtly linking the kitchen with the adjoining lounge so the open-plan space feels calm, cohesive, and easy to live in.
Additional Works
All associated works were completed to support the new kitchen design, including flooring installation and upgraded lighting. These elements were carefully coordinated to ensure the finished space feels seamless, polished, and thoughtfully designed from every angle.
Project Outcome
The completed kitchen is now a light, contemporary space that feels calm, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time in. Through intelligent layout planning, reflective finishes, and carefully layered lighting, a once dark and dated kitchen has been transformed into a small contemporary kitchen that feels open, balanced, and easy to live with.
This Harrogate kitchen renovation is a great example of how good design can unlock the full potential of compact spaces, creating a kitchen that not only looks beautiful but works effortlessly for everyday life.
Customer Review
Following completion, Mr Clark left a 5-star Trustpilot review, sharing the following feedback:
